Let’s talk pushups! As soon as I bring up press ups I normally hear “I have never been able to do those” push ups are a challenging exercise but done correctly it’s an excellent full body movement. When people have done pushups in the past the technique has probably been off meaning the core wasn’t engaged making it feel horrible on the upper body. With this exercise I always emphasise correct position and make things easier with a series of progressions. These include raising the arms up, holding a press up positions and practicing just the down part of the push up. Although these progressions makes things easier you should still feel your core engage. I am not a huge fan of dropping the knees to the floor as this engages the core a lot less, much prefer placing the hands on a higher platform. If you hear me say push ups in class, I promise it won’t be too scary!
